Expanding cold chains and rising population across wider geographies is leading to efficient and reliable cold chain solutions. Bulk transportation of perishable liquids is a challenging task in food supply chains. In bulk liquids transportation where temperature control is required, heated inter mediate bulk containers (IBCs) are increasingly used. Heated IBC containers comes with many varieties of heating pads, which generally consists of a rubber pad and a covering jacket. Heated IBCs are also equipped with electronic heat sensors and monitors. The silicon rubber mat can be easily inserted and removed from the cage.

The cage jacket is made of waterproof, weatherproof and flame retardant materials, like insulated polyurethane, with two separate heating circuits and thermostats. The growing demand for heated IBCs is influencing manufacturers of IBCs to expand their product portfolio by launching of new heated IBCs. Rising concern of food & beverages wastage during cold chain transport is influencing the cold chain service providers to adopt heated IBCs. Overall, the heated intermediate bulk containers market is expected to grow at a lucrative CAGR during the forecast period.
In June 2017, Liquid CONcept GmbH & Co. KG, a transportation specialist in Germany invested in Heated Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs). Compared to other bulk transporting products, heated IBCs provide increased cost efficiency and reliability. These IBCs are predominantly used in temperature controlled foodstuffs e.g. chocolate, caramel paste and edible oils, but are also used to store liquid products. Food & beverage businesses in European countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Denmark, Slovakia, and others increasingly preferring these heated IBCs.
In recent few years, IBC rental service providers are increasingly adding heated IBCs into their portfolio. The technology for temperature controlled or heated IBCs is continuously evolving. Manufacturers are increasingly investing in research & development to improve the performance of these IBCs. As of now, the market share of heated IBCs in overall bulk liquid transportation is very low and hardly stands at 2% – 3.5%.
Some of the players associated with the global heated IBCs market are Holroyd Components Ltd, TPS Rental Systems, ELEMEX Ltd., Kuhlmann Electro-Heat A/S, Thermon South Africa (Pty) Ltd., BriskHeat Corporation, and others.
